About
Amir Ohana serves as Speaker of the 25th Knesset as of December 2022. He served as
Minister of Justice in the 34th Government and Minister of Public Security in the 35th
Government.
Amir Ohana was born in 1976 in Be’er Sheva, where he was raised. In 1994, Ohana
enlisted in the IDF and served as a senior investigations officer in the Military Police,
commander of the traffic accident investigators course, commander of the Military
Police base and commander of the Karni Crossing into the Gaza Strip. Ohana currently
serves as a captain in the IDF reserves.
Following his military service, Ohana was recruited to the General Security Service, and
held positions related to intelligence and the fight against terror.
Ohana serves as chair of the Likud Pride Group, which promotes equality and freedom
for the LGBT community within the Likud party. He is a Member of the Board of
Directors of Tadmor – Eretz Yisrael Loyalists Group in Likud, and is also a member of
the Manof Forum for young liberals in Likud.
Since December 2015, Ohana has served as an MK on behalf of Likud (from the 20th
Knesset through the 25th Knesset). He has served as a member of the Foreign Affairs
and Defense Committee, the House Committee and others. He has chaired the Caucus
for Shaping the Gun Carrying Policy in Israel and the Caucus for a Democratic Israel
and for Overhauling the Legal System, served as a member of the Caucus for Medical
Cannabis and other caucuses, and served as the co-chair of the Israel-Japan
Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Israel-Australia Parliamentary Friendship
Group.
Ohana lives in Tel Aviv with his partner and is the father of two.
