Meet Our Team: Evan Majzner
July 25, 2019
To help you get to know the people of itrek more in depth, we’re featuring different members of our team to learn about their backgrounds, what they do at itrek, and their connection to Israel. Today we’re featuring our Director of Development, Evan Majzner.
Name: Evan Majzner
Title: Director of Development
Home Town: Parsippany, New Jersey
Currently based in: New York City
What is your professional and educational background?
I’m actually an attorney by trade. I practiced law for almost six years, primarily in investment management services, but left that world and chose to go into nonprofit. I wanted a career where I would feel passionate, meet interesting people, and make an impact. I had always been interested in the strategy behind fundraising: how to make the right ask and cultivate people, connecting their passions with their philanthropy. Before joining itrek two years ago, I helped build the fundraising infrastructure for the Birthright Israel Foundation in NYC.
Tell us about your role at itrek
It’s a fairly diverse role, as we are supported by a range of foundations and individuals. Overall, we strive to strengthen the itrek brand among prospective donors to give them a sense of the impact we’re creating. Compared to other organizations, itrek does not enjoy the same name recognition. It is exciting to walk into a meeting with a prospective supporter and tell them who we are and what we have been able to accomplish over the past eight years. Their jaws drop when they hear that we have managed to send more than 18,000 future leaders to Israel in such a short time.
What’s an interesting project you’re currently working on?
We are gearing up for a leader-led campaign in September. itrek knows that in order to both sustain the treks that our trek leaders have created over the past eight years and to continue our trajectory of growth, we need past and future trek leaders to help support the organization. The campaign will ask leaders to both contribute to itrek and reach out to their friends and family to consider joining them.
What do you love most about Israel?
I love the feeling I get when I step off the plane. Even if I haven’t been there for a year or more, I step into Ben-Gurion Airport, and suddenly it feels like I never left.
